The Butch and the Baby Daddy – 3 Awards!

Alex and Mateo at Alley of the Murals. Mural by Janet Leiva Romero

These 3 fabulous awards wrap a wonderful year of festival screenings around the world for the short animation The Butch and the Baby Daddy. We’re so happy to have participated in many Latinx, LGBTQ+, women’s and documentary festivals. Sending out our appreciation to everyone who runs these festivals and their hard work. Also many, many thanks to our distributor CFMDC.

Dreaming to become a mother, Alex must face her own fears to ask a friend to donate sperm. Alex has wanted to have a baby almost as long as she can remember. But how is a trans/butch lesbian supposed to get sperm? When she considers asking Mateo, a close gay friend of hers, Alex is forced to investigate what she really values.

Its based on an excerpt from the book How to Get a Girl Pregnant by Karleen Pendleton Jiménez which was published in 2011 by Tightrope Books.  The book was a finalist for a Lambda Literary Award and chosen for the 2013 Over The Rainbow List by the American Library Association.

This project is a collaboration of the animator Barb Taylor and writer Karleen Pendleton Jiménez.
